Green Construction at No Extra Cost
Our first “green” building which contains 50 middle income units not only cost us the same to build as an ordinary building, but Steven Winter Associates (a national energy consulting firm) stated in a report that The Andrew was “the best performing building in a new multifamily construction with four-stories or greater” than it had ever seen in all of New York State.
Careful planning, tight quality control, and very smart use of simple off the shelf components allowed us to create this super-efficient building. Our heating costs per average apartment are just $200 for an entire winter. During the coldest days of the winter, only one of the two small heating boilers (each is rated at 400,000 BTU’s input) operates. And, even when the outdoor temperatures approach 10 degrees Fahrenheit, the temperature of the hot water being delivered by the gas fired hydronic heating system never exceeds 145 degrees.
