Resilience

Rebuild Resilient Staten Island

The Bluestone Organization has been called upon by the City of New York to provide Staten Island and Queens residents who have lost their homes with state of the art, resilient, sustainable, and durable homes that will surpass all energy codes and all FEMA requirements.  By using raised construction and materials impervious to mold, fire, and water, these resilient houses will be made to maintain habitability in case of extended outages or emergency situations.  Solar electricity panels will also be added for greater energy efficiency, a smaller carbon footprint, and to provide some back-up electricity in case of outages.  For more information, click on the link below to visit the main website for this project.

The Bluestone Organization is currently developing an 80 acre site in conjunction with Triangle Equities and L+M Development Partners to create a fully sustainable community that will also be resilient in the face of an ever more extreme climate and rising seas.  This area of the economically troubled neighborhood has laid barren for decades and was further ravaged by Hurricane Sandy.  In order to rejuvenate the neighborhood, shore it up against an increasingly extreme climate, and add more affordable housing, The NYC government has tapped these three businesses to lead a design competition that would integrate all available sustainability options and resiliency measures for a resilient Rockaway.  The FARROC (For A Resilient ROCkaway) Design Competition brought many ideas from architects, developers and residents about how this area can and should be developed for the sustainability and resilience of the neighborhood and its residents.  Click the link below for more information on the design criteria, possibilities, and process that went into planning the development of this neighborhood.
